A note in The Weekly Observer dated Nov. 8, 1888 reads: Mrs. Alexander
Brewster of Eastport, Me, who has been visiting her daughter, Mrs. Joseph
Dickson of Hopewell Cape, returned home on the fifth. She resided at in
1913 in Saint John, N.B.. She was in Saint John when her granddaughter was
married. She died on Sep 5 1922 in Saint John, N.B.. She was buried after
Sep 5 1922 in Fernhill Cemetery, Saint John, N.B.
Census 1871 St John: age 29, living with husband, 2 stepsons and infant
daughter; born NB; Church of England; English origin.
There is a death certificate in St. John for Elizabeth Ann Brewster in Sep 5
1922 which states she is Elizabeth Elston from Chipman and the informant is
her son Frederick J. Reg. # 031638 F18934
The Fanjoy roots go back over 200 years in Saint John, NB and 150 years in Queen's Co., NB. It is believed to be a Dutch name. The first Fanjoy to come to the America's was William. He enlisted with the First Battalion of the Pennsylvania Loyalists and came to Saint John on October 13, 1783. William and his wife Isabella had four sons, Wiliam, Joseph, Thomas and Samuel. The male branch that stayed closest to the family home and lifestyle was Thomas. He lived in Saint Martins about 1810 and then moved on. He had three sons, the youngest was Charles. He had moved to the south shore of Grand Lake by 1861 and became a well-known tailor and grocer. He also farmed. In 1983 the Fanjoy's held a family reunion at Fanjoy's Point on Grand Lake. Charles Henry (1823-1883) married 1854 Mary Jane Carten (1837-1911). Lived on South Shore of Grand Lake, property later became Lakeside Provincial Park. He is buried St. Lukes, she Waterboro Baptist South Shore, Grand Lake. They had eight children, Douglas Weldon Fanjoy was the second child.
He is known as Douglas Wellington Fanjoy and Douglas Weldon Fanjoy.
