Her death was reported in a newspaper of 23 February 1960: She left the following 3 daughters, Mrs. Earle Carr, Lancaster; Mrs. William Stopp, West Saint John; Mrs. George C. Bomke, Wisconsin, USA, four sons, James D. and Roland V. of Lancaster; Eldon C. of West Saint John and Clarence S. of Saint John and one half brother Frank M Hamm. She was 85 years of age. This information I was given by someone that is of Purdy descent, but so far we have been unable to tie our two lines together.
Her death notice appeared in the Telegraph Journal on February 24, 1960, page 12. It reads as follows:
Purdy---- At Fair Villa Nursing Home, 358 Charlotte Street, Lancaster, Feb. 22, 1960, Mrs. Bertha M. Purdy, formerly of 174 Rodney Street, West Saint John, widow of George W. Purdy, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Andrew M. Hamm, West Saint John, survived by three daughters, four sons, one sister, one half-brother, 13 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, two nieces and one nephew.
resting at the Ross Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Avenue, Lancaster, from where the funeral will be held Thursday afternoon with service at 2 p.m. interment in St. George's Cemetery, Lancaster.
