Was married by Rev. I. E. Bill at Germain St. Baptist Church, St. John and they lived 1869 to 1875 at 109 Britain St. In 1876 they moved to 143 Britain St. and Euphemia, widow of Robert is listed as living at 109 Britain St. In 1877 the Great Fire occurred leaving 13,000 people homeless: 101 homes on Britain Street alone in charred ruins. In 1884 Robert rebuilt and lived at 14 Britain St. for that year. He made his will, April 13, 1645, with a codicil, October 9, 1643. The will was proved, October 25, 1645. Emily J. Barney divorced David Bucklin and changed her name to Jennie Emily Miranda Walker, and disappeared according to record. However, Edward A. Barney believed she remained in the Canaan, NH vicinity for some time for she made occasional visits at his home when he was very young. Jabez Bosworth Barney was named for his mothers maternal grandfather. He came to Grafton with his father. He married his second cousin, Chloe Barney. Jabez Barney of Swansea, Massachusetts was an Ensign in Capt. Jonathan Droun's Co., Col. Gamaliel Bradford's Regiment and served from February 20 1777 to June 20, 1777. He came to Grafton, N. Jacob and Elizabeth Barney are buried in unmarked graves in Salem, Massachusetts. He was made a freeman of Salem on May 14, 1634. He sat in at least five sessions of the General Court. He made a will and appointed his son Jacob, Jr and his wife Elizabeth to administer it, and swore to it, April 18, 1672. Jacob was on the city counsel of Salem and was one of the committee who tried Roger Williams and banished him from Salem. However, there was one dissenting vote, which is thought to have been Jacobs. For his son Jacob joined the Baptists, which was the creed that Salem rejected in Roger Williams.
Jacob Barney's first wife died in childbirth. Jacob made a will and it is recorded February 20, 1693. A copy of his will is interesting as he made Ann his executor and she seems to have followed his instructions. Jacob Barney, Jr. was one of the founders of the First Baptist Church of Boston about 1665 and it is recorded in the records of that church. Melvin was born in Grafton, NH and died in Canaan. He is buried in Wells Cemetery in Canaan. Served in the Civil War in the 15th Reg. NH, Vol. Co. F. and received a Civil War Pension. He worked as a section boss for the Northern R. R. later to become the Boston & Maine Rail Road. He received a pension. There were two children born to this marriage and Melvin never remarried after this wife's death from measles at age 37. The children lived part time with Elizina (Barney) (Martin) Eastman. Her name is also spelled Alcena H. She married first Walter Martin and second Daniel Eastman. She was the fifth wife to Dan Eastman and also she was distantly related to Melvin through the Barneys (through Aaron the third and Cyril). Elzina (Alcena) had a brother Charles who lived between East Grafton and Danbury all his days. Through her husband, Daniel Eastman, she was a sister-in-law to Polly Eastman who Melvin Married. Daniel and Polly Eastman had a brother Henry Eastman in Orange who named one of his sons Melvin Barney Eastman. Daniel and Polly were the children of Henry Eastman of Orange and he is buried in Orange.spouse: Eastman, Polly M. (1845 - 1883)
Miranda was a noted woman; a vice-president-general of the DAR for many years. She also held National Number 1197, and was credited with the record of Edward Evans in that organization.
