Samuel Monk, Jr. was the first child of Mary Louise and Sam Monk. His early childhood was spent in Atlanta, GA. Summers were divided between the farm and home, and jobs at the A&P store his father managed. As he grew older, guitar and accordion lessons were pursued. He graduated from Hume-Fogg Hi in Nashville, TN. The graduation ceremony was held in the Ryman Auditorium, home of the Grand Old Opry at that time. He graduated from the Univ. of Tennessee at Knoxville in 1943. He went through OCS at Ft. Benning, GA, and entered the army as a second lieutenant. He went overseas and fought the Germans in WWII. He was in the Battle of the Bulge and received the Purple Heart medal for injuries sustained. He later transferred to the Air Force and was discharged a captain. His daughter, Va. Anne, and son Robert (Bobby) were born before he left the service. He tried poultry farming on his father's farm at Ty Ty, GA. This was not successful. In 1947 he entered the Episcopal seminary at the Univ. of the South at Sewanee, TN. His ordination took place at the Church of the Redeemer in Shelbyville, TN, Sept. 29, 1950. He later had churches in Texas, Kansas and Miss. His dau., Ruth Ellen, was born while he was in New Braunfels, TX. When he left active duty he transferred to the Air Force Reserves, Chaplain Corps. He retired from the Reserves as a Col. His wife, Virginia, died as the result of breast cancer in 1973. Lucile Thomas Goree, widow of Paul Goree married Sam Smith Monk III on Nov. 22, 1973 in Miss. They moved to Batesville, Miss. Sam was recuperating from surgery and cobalt treatments for cancer of the esophagus when he suffered a stroke.spouse: Barr, Virginia (1919 - 1973)

Albert died when the family home burned. He was never married and very odd. He worked for the Post office in Saint John or West Saint John.
In St. John, Friday, Albert MORGAN received twelve lashes in accordance with the sentence passed upon him by the Chief Justice for indecent assault. (see original)

In a letter dated 8 April, 1940, a lawyer, Edward Raymond, applied for
letters of administration for Frederick Morgan, the matter of his
representation being the estate of Frederick's brother Albert E Morgan. This
letter contains a paragraph stating that the Albert E Morgan estate heirs
are Frederick of SJ, a brother Walter S of Malden (MA?), a brother George W
of Portland, Oregon and a brother Ernest, a patient at the Provincial
Hospital in SJ.
In RS71 Saint John Probate, I found an index reference to a Frederick Morgan
of 230 James Street West, SJ who died 20 March, 1961. This from the file
which I looked up and copied. There is a Will and other papers of estate
administration. He granted executor status to his lawyer and a Miss Clare
Veronica Eileen Batson of 222 St James St is named to receive his property
in the will. He also owned a vacant lot on Germain St., W. Saint John.
Miss Veronica Eileen Batson was his wife's sister.
