Early New Brunswick Probate Records by R. Wallace Hale shows the following:
Moorcraft, Robert City of Saint John, St. John Co., Carpenter. Intestate, Administration granted 20 October 1826 to Margaret Moorcraft, widow. Fellow bondsmane George McAuoley, blacksmith, and Joshua Belyea, carman, all of the City of Stain John.
Note on above: Joshua Belyea was a fellow bondsman to Margaret Moorcraft,
widow in the intestate administration of her husband, granted 20 Oct
1826. I think this Margaret Moorcraft is the same Margaret who
married Robert Moorcraft in 1823. Her maiden name was Bulyea, and
she was born abt 1802, so I would think she was related to Joshua.
Her father was Thomas Bulyea, who was the son of Hendrick (Henry) &
Englete Bulyea. As far as I know, Thomas and his wife only had 2
children, Margaret and Elizabeth, but there were lots of brothers of
Thomas.
1858 shows that co signed for a marriage in Saint John between Isaiah Langin of Queens and Jessie Dunn of Queens. This could be the son of Joshia Belyea Sr. also.
This family seems to use the Bulyea name. In 1863 Joshua Bulyea partitions land #9027 in Kent.
Marriage witnesses are J. Thompson and G. Clark
The 1871 New Brunswick Directory lists a Joshua Belyea, Ships Carpenter, as living in Portland, Saint John, NB.

For nearly 20 years he has been a captain and sailed in the employ of Messrs. Nevins, Welsh & Co. of Liverpool. This family was the one lost on the City of Columbus, a steamer on which they were sailing to Savannah on their way to Florida. Had with them their daughter Alice who had lost her husband, Alice's son Wilmot, about 8 years old and Antoinett's son Coburn Merrill about 5 years old. Antoinette had died a short time before in chld birth. Steamer ran on the rocks at Gay Head on Marth's Vineyard island in clear weather (a mistake made by the officer in charge of the deck). Some rescued by Gay Head Indians. The bodies of Mary, Alice and one of the boys were found -- other boy not picked up.spouse: Belyea, Robert Bayard (1830 - 1884)
The Restoration and Marine Museum, Mystic Seaport, Conn. has one of the quarterboards salvaged from the City of Columbus in the Stillman Building.
Two of his grandsons, Robert David and John Parker Jr., 'were featured in an article which appeared in the Saturday Evening Post, when their transport firm, located near Los Angeles, California succeeded in delivering to the top of Mount Palomar, the huge lens for the observatory. The lens was ground in Europe at a tremendous cost and had taken several years to be ground and polished. It was reported that no other firm was willing to take the great risk involved in moving the lens to the top of the mountain over very treacherous roads.' From 'the Genealogy of the Boulier-Bulyea-Belyea Family 1697-1969'spouse: Walker, Mary Mehitable (1832 - 1917)
The 1851 Census for Greenwich, Kings County, New Brunswick, Robert is listed, age 21, with father, Nathaniel BELYEA, a farmer & family. He is also listed as a servant, working on the farm of a Mr. Glasier of Lincoln, Sunbury County, NB, Canada.
Robert was the executor of his father's will.
1861 census for Simmons, Carleton County, NB, Canada, lists Robert BELYEA, farmer with 10 acres of improved land. Cash value of farm $500.00 and machinery $120.00. He had two horses, two milking cows, eleven sheep, two swine with 200 pounds of pork slaughtered in the year. The family was Baptist. Wife, Mary, age 29; Lavinia daughter, age 9; Robert P. age 5; Charles A. age 4; Alice age 2; Mary age 2 months.
Robert and his family lived in Centreville, Carleton Co. NB, Canada, before moving to Monticello, Maine, USA.
Robert named his son, Samuel R. Belyea, executor of his will & left all of his estate to his wife, Mary, except for "the black colt with white face called Chester, which I give to my daughter, Maude Belyea."
Robert worked as a stone mason at one time.
His body was never recovered from the see. See Mary Elizabeth Belyea's note regarding the City of Columbus.spouse: Belyea, Mary Elizabeth (1832 - 1884)
The addition of the child Joshua has not been proven. He was attached here because he witnessed the will of Margaret Belyea Moorcraft and the fact that most of this line spelled their name Bulyea. Also this is one of the few families that could have a child born when Joshua was born.spouse: Braden, Eliza (1766 - )
